What is Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA)? How is it calculated?
The charter fee exclusively covers the cost of renting the yacht and its crew.
Any additional expenses are not included in this fee.
To manage these additional costs on longer trips (for instance, one week), we use a system called Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA), which simplifies the process of covering various expenses incurred during your yacht charter.
The APA functions as a straightforward way to establish a cash account for your charter yacht’s Captain.
This account is used to cover operational expenses such as fuel for your journey, food, beverages, port fees, transportation to and from the vessel, special requests, and incidentals on your behalf.
The Captain will handle all payments from this account, maintaining a record of receipts and ensuring the account’s balance. Importantly, there are no mark-ups on the APA, and you can review the expenditure at any time.
Any remaining credit in the APA account will be fully refunded to you in cash. Similarly, if there are any overages, these should be settled with the captain in cash before disembarkation. Your captain will provide advance notice if it seems that your expenses might exceed the APA to avoid any surprises.
The specific APA amount is estimated in advance, generally ranging from 30% to 35% of the total charter fee. The exact percentage may vary depending on your itinerary and the number of guests.
The APA payment is due along with the final payment, typically no later than one month before your charter commences.
